ALA Washington Office

The American Library Association's Washington Office tumblr. We post about federal policies that affect libraries, including copyright, privacy and access. We also post about ebooks and, admittedly, the occasional library fluff.

Here’s the finished colors for the ALA donation piece I did last year.

Pretty accurate representation of your average library, I think.

Melville House has a terrific slideshow of WPA Posters about books and reading. (The Library of Congress has even more!) The art is inspiring enough; the sentiments behind it, even more so. A few of our favorites.

I love it when art and enthusiasm for reading/libraries combine.

I was recently asked to paint the library in my old primary school. This is what I came up with. It was so much fun! :)

Outstanding.

Books Are My Treasure.
Originally appeared in the Shelf Awareness blog in an short story about my love of comic strip collections. *In the final comic, I pasted actual book covers into the piece.
I’m donating the original art for the art auction at ALA Anaheim. So if you are a librarian heading to California this weekend be sure to check out all the great art being offered the cause.

The intersection of libraries and art = win.

Matt sez, “The School of Library and Inoformation Management at Emporia State University (Kansas, USA) unveiled a comic book aimed at generating newfound excitement for librarianship and increasing the awareness of the many opportunities that an MLS/MLIS degree can provide. From the same team that created Library of the Living Dead and Monster Clash, Supreme Librarians in Metaspace is a promotional comic that highlights the many facets of librarianship in a quirky, tongue-in-cheek manner. This resource encourages librarians around the world to take a look at the profession in a new light. And maybe have a laugh or two while doing it.”
